DAY 55

Rick tested positive today for a very bad bacteria called c-dif. He has been started on medicine that should take care of it, but he was very down today. He wasn't his normal self. I'm glad we know why he wasn't acting normal, but sad that he's feeling bad. The medicine should kick in quickly and he'll be fine. The OT girls cut his cast off today and were very impressed with how his arm looked. They left it off for about 4 hours and he never tried to pull his arm up. They recasted him and were able to straighten the arm out even more...they were very pumped about it. PT stood him up again today twice and are very happy with the results they see. ST worked on swallowing this morning. She said Rick's mouth is still weak, but the best thing to strengthen those muscles is to eat. He ate his pureed food pretty good today...I would even say he ate 25% of his supper tray. As his muscles strengthen, then his talking will come to him easier. He tries to talk, but we just can't understand what he's saying.

Kim and Phillip and the kids got here today. It's so good to see everyone. Rick also got a hair cut today...he was getting a little shaggy. She buzzed him good and even trimmed his mustache. She trimmed the 'stache a little too much, but he still looks good.

He will have a little bit of therapy this weekend...not as intense as during the week, but that's okay especially since he's not feeling well.

So, we ended the week a little down because of the c-dif, but I have so many positives to hang on to. And, I don't see Rick letting this get him down. And we're at Baylor AND WE HAVE GOD!!!

Love,
Crystal

  1. Crystal,
Remember, just a little speed bump. nothing too tough for God, we want everything to go to suit us, however, sometimes it just doesn't. Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God is still in control. I heard a preacher say one time that regardless of how we feel, God pulls the strings of those who pull the strings! He is still on our side, with Him we are a majority!! Thank you Jesus for removing the c-dif, God Blesss you all!!! later, rick

  2. Sorry to hear about the c-diff but so glad that he is doing better with his therapy. Eating will make him stronger. We just got back from the roundup. Not sure where the Tongue River ended up in the standing but they did well. Once I wasn't clapping and Cason(6) elbowed me and said "hey, that was the Tongue River dude". They were asking to go again tomorrow night before this one was over. Not sure my body can take it. Heard that it was almost sold out for tomorrow. That's a lot of people. I wanted to get a closer look at the guys shirts but I was too far away.
Hope tomorrow is a good one and Rick is feeling better. Sounds like he is working hard. He is a very lucky man to have someone like you at his side.
Keeping you close in thought and prayer.

  4. Dear Crystal,
I am so thankful to God for the doctors and therapists at Baylor and that Rick is there. What a blessing. I read a "daily word" every day and yesterday, when I read it, my mind was on you and Rick. It is about healing. So, here is what it says,...

Through the healing activity of the Holy Spirit, I am renewed and energized.

A cozy bed, comfort foods, and long naps give me rest and renewal. Cheerful cards, phone calls, and flowers from loved ones brighten my day.
While I gratefully receive these blessings, I know that my true healing comes from within. Whatever challenge I may be facing, the indwelling Spirit is restoring me to health and wholeness.
Just as a lamp shines when connected to an electrical outlet, so my energy surges when I connect in consciousness to the One Source of life.
In thought and prayer, I align myself with the healing activity of the Holy Spirit, and I am renewed and energized.

But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. - Malachi 4:2

I hope you have a peaceful weekend. Your very presence is a gift to the world. Know this with all your heart and mind and soul and follow the inspiration of God within you.
sending a Hello to the kids and Kim and Phillip from the Shipp's.

    Love you and Bless you,
    Dorisann
