DAY 66

Another successful day for Rick. He ate well, he responded well to Dr. Carlile, he helped push his arm through his shirt when he got dressed this morning, and he tried to brush his teeth. In neuropsych Chris asked him to point to the correct year, and he did and then he asked him to point to the correct day of the week and he pointed to Tuesday. He walked on the treadmill again today with the same amount of assistance as yesterday. They put a mirror in front of him so he can see himself and he really does watch himself. He went to the vision clinic today. They mainly checked overall eye health which looked good. She did notice an ulcer on his right eye probably due to his lack of blinking and keeping his eyes well moistened. When they get dry they will have little tears in the them that bacteria can get in causing the ulcer. She started him on some eye ointment. He had another swallow test today, but is not ready to advance to a less strict diet. We continue to try to fatten him up. I try to give him snacks between therapies, he is also drinking a 500 calorie drink in the evenings, and his overnight tube feeding has been increased.

Kyler is back from surgery. So good to see him. I visited with his grandmother briefly. Kyler's surgery was 2 weeks ago and his vision has not returned. That's not to say it can't especially with the help of God. So please keep Kyler in your prayers...he's 16 and he wants to see again. I think he will do fabulous in therapy and I hope his family has many days of celebrations ahead of them.

The power of prayer is so awesome. It is the reason we are here today, and I thank God for it. And I thank everyone who has stood with us...and I know I speak for every member of his family when I say, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please continue to pray for Rick...he's the best, but y'all already knew that!

  1. Yippee!! So glad Rick has had two great days in a row! I know you need that as much as he does!! So glad you mentioned something about Kyler bc I had sent Tanya a message earlier checking on him. I think about you and Rick throughout my day at school wondering what new therapy Rick is conquering. You know yall are all in our prayers!! Missing ya bunches!!Love, Aunt Sher, John, and Kelce

  2. They never have done a CAT scan or a MRI of his heart or his soul. They would see he has a heart of a fighter and the soul of a survivor, but we know that!!!! Love Mom

  3. Crystal,
Forward-upward, the direction to look and go!
God is an all good God, the devil is an all bad devil. He can put up some speed bumps but no stops when we stay tuned in to God. When God be for us, who can be against us? So glad to hear the good news, keep up the good work, God Bless you both, give you patience, srength, and the ability to see the best through the worst. We have to maintain our faith in God and Jesus to believe that the end result will be complete restoration for Rick's health!! Later, Rick

  4. Wonderful news!! Rick wants to be back with his family and he moves closer each day. With the faith and fight both of you have failure is not an option.
Here's to a good nights sleep and another beautiful day tomorrow. shelah

  5. Dear Crystal...I am always amazed after reading every thankful GOD IS IN your mom's post too about rick's heart and soul, one's attitude has a lot to do with their recovery process and there is no doubt that Rick has "Cowboyed up" and is giving it his all...WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!! Ya'll are an incredible team, and with GOD as your captain/coach, the finish line isn't too far away!! please know you are never far from our hearts, always praying for all of you.

  6. Boy, was your mom right when she posted her comment on the Rick's heart and soul! He continues to improve and I know it centers on the faith of God and the strength of his wife who has been with him every step of the way. He sure knew what he was doing when he asked you to marry him!!!
We continue to pray and there is not a day that goes by that we don't have a conversation about his outstanding progress with someone.
I am so glad to hear about Kyler as well. I wondered last night how he was doing so thank you so much for keeping us posted on him as well.
Take care. We will call soon. We love and miss you both.
