DAY 73

OMG...are we at Six Flags or something? I feel like we're making the rounds, Judge Roy Scream, Shock Wave, Mr. Freeze, The Texas Giant...today was great! He did test positive for c-diff, but Dr. Carlile didn't wait on the test results, she wanted to get ahead of it and started him on meds this morning and also on buttermilk...grandma's remedy! She also started him on an IV just to push some more fluids to him and keep him hydrated. First thing this morning was OT. He helped push his arms through the sleeves and also tried to brush his teeth. He spit out his mouthwash which is a big deal...apparently the planning of how to spit is pretty complicated, so the OT's get excited when it happens. In ST he was asked about 5 questions and the answers were printed on a sheet of paper. He had 2 options for answers on each question and he pointed to the correct answer each time. In PT he stood a couple of times and as Olivia was counting to 30 we noticed that Rick was counting with her...probably because she counts too slow for Rick! He was also on the bike again and pedalled himself 8 out of 10 minutes he was on it. We saw the eye doctor again today, and his eyes are better but still not good. She suggested putting a weight on top of his eye to help him keep it closed whent it's shut, but not too heavy that he can't open his eye when he wants to. We just put it on and he's sleeping, so I'm not sure how he'll react to it.

His favorite aide is back today. Her name is Miss Ruthie and she is from the island of St Kits in the Carribean. She's lived in the states for over 30 years and has worked in the brain injury dept here at Baylor for 25 years! Can you believe that? I know people who can't stick with one job for 25 minutes much less 25 years! I swear when she talks to him he listens to every word...if she said, "Rick, get up and jump in your chair" I think he would. She was on vacation last week and we really missed her. She's just one of those special people and she told me today that every morning she prays that she can be a blessing to someone that day. She is certainly a blessing to us.

Thanks for all your prayers...they've been working. I know a ton of people prayed we would have a better day, and we did.

God's Blessings to each of you!

Love,
Crystal

Remember she said it was a honor to care for him, I think she is one of those special people that God puts on this earth to guide those that need her love, attention, and skills. 8. I am listening to my itunes as I am reading the posts and realize one of my favorite songs is playing. It is a helpful reminder to me when I am going through the ups and downs of life and felt I should share it with you today. Our God is faithful and constant. Thank you Lord for being a constant in Crystal and Rick's lives during this time. Here are the lyrics:

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back. I know You are near.

And I will fear no evil For my God is with me
And if my God is with me Whom then shall I fear? Whom then shall I fear?

    Chorus:
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
    But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth

Yes, I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
    But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You

In our prayers, Dana Herin (sister to Diana Bullard)

  9. Crystal,
I have been praying for Rick and your family since the being when Jason Jarvis asked me to. I think you are a strong woman and God is very proud of you. It is such a great thing to see that your family and friends are giving you such a support system. I also found that having a favorite aid or nurse so brightened our days. Continue to be strong. The day is coming where you will have your family back together. May the Lord continue to bless you and Rick. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
    God Bless
    Gerie

  10. PRAISE THE LORD!! My heart has been hurting for you Crystal, as you ride this roller coaster keep clinging to the fact that God is always faithful through all the seasons of our lives. Remember as we walk through the valley to look up at the beautiful view...no doubt you had a moutain top view today...Thank God--He never gives us more than we can handle without Him...the song mentioned above, "Never Let Go" is very near and dear to my heart; "still I will praise Him", I encourage you to repeat over and over throughout the entire ride--mountain-top and valley days.

I am always telling others when they ask about ya'll how blessed I am everyday reading your posts and how your faith is so encouraging; like a beautiful flower that blooms so bright and vibrant, and on the days it gets a little wilted, after a little rain and sunshine (prayer and the Word of God), the flower is in full bloom again...You are literally blooming where you are planted. Thank you for being so real Crystal.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

"yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength, He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go the heights." Habakkuk 3:18-19

Rest in the fact that the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the I Am is in total control and already knows the final outcome of this journey and it will be for HIS GLORY.

Missing you, sending love and hugs,
    Ronda and fam
