DAY 299 & 300

Yesterday was such a good day for Rick. He was re-evaled in OT and had great improvement in his hand strength, his dexterity, and math skills. The last time he did math, he was only able to do problems like 8-5 and 15+8, but yesterday he was doing 125.85 - 34.22 and he did them faster and with better accuracy. It's so good to see progress, especially when it's as black and white as this is. Brenda Duckworth came by at lunch and Rick was really talking good to her...really trying to get his voice "on". The outing yesterday was to the Lubbock Arts Festival. Rick was with his PT's during the outing so the had to climb stairs while we were there. He did 2 flights of 12 steps a piece...down and back up. He handled it really well and even tried to take the stairs 2 at a time on the way back up. We were able to convince him that one step at a time was good enough. There were several people that informed us there was an elevator, and acted like we were either mean or crazy when we said it was for his therapy. He was rewarded for his hard work when we found the food aisle. He bought 6 slices of cake and could've cared less about the rest of the art festival! When he was loaded on the van, he got out of his chair and climbed the steps to the bus. Yesterday was the first time ever that he didn't get motion sickness when travelling. Laura has been addressing his motion sickness problems, and so yesterday we decided not to give him his nausea medicine before the outing and he was able to stay focused and not throw up. That's huge...we have been dealing with motion sickness for months! I'm so thankful that this is clearing up, and the continued healing in Rick's brain. Praise Jesus!

I picked the kids up in Dickens in a downpour, and we got back to Lubbock in time for them to entertain Rick for a little while before bed. Rick didn't want to get up this morning, so again, breakfast ran into lunch. Cassie DeFiori came by for a visit and he enjoyed talking about the goings on at the mare barn.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (curing their pains and sorrows). He determines and counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord and of great power; His understanding is inexhaustible and boundless. Psalm 147:3-5.

Love,
Crystal
