DAY 115

Today was a better day. I am a little frustrated by Rick's schedule, but I have plans of talking to his case manager about it tomorrow. I was told Rick would get 6 hours of therapy a day here, and we've been here a week and there hasn't been any day that he's gotten 6 hours of therapy. As a matter of fact he hasn't gotten any OT in the last 3 days except for retaping his left shoulder today (the femoral head is too far foward and they're trying to put it back with tape)., and I don't really count that as actaul therapy. Today he only got 30 minutes of PT because the therapist had meetings. And once again they expected him to sit at his desk and work on worksheets for 2 hours at one time...he does not like being in that little office and certainly cannot sit in there for a 2 hour stretch. I was able to stay with him most of the day other than about an hour. Dr. Dickson acted like a rehab tech would work one on one with Rick when I'm not there, but so far that hasn't been the case...they can't actually dedicate a tech to him full time. And Rick is just not at the level where you can tell him to do something and walk out of the room and expect him to do it. He was very tired today and is napping now...waiting on his shower. I have had to shower him myself the last 2 nights because the rehab techs are too busy with other patients to get to him before 8:30...I told them yesterday he needs to be in bed by 8:30, but they just can't seem to get to him, so I just do it myself. Right now we have 3 other guys in the house that require a lot of attention, and when there's only 5 techs the house it gets a little short handed. One of the guys is Walter. He is a Vietnam Vet and a retired Dallas police officer. You've heard of "Where's Waldo?" well, around here it's "Where's Walter" because he is always wondering off and has to have someone with him constantly. Then there's Dan. He's about 45, 6'3" and 225. He had a motorcycle wreck in February. He is very violent and last week hit one tech and threw another one down the hall. He is sleeping and in his room most of the time, but when he's awake...look out! The other one that's high maintenance is Fred. He had a car wreck 2 years ago, and although he's nice most of the time...at the drop of a hat he's mad...mad at everybody. There's other folks here and I'll eventually tell y'all all about them as well.

I've always believed that God will fix any mistakes I might make in this journey. Coming to Pate may have been a mistake, and if it is, we have other options and we'll get this fixed. This may just be a bump in the road that is fixed in the next couple of days, and we're good, but if not that's okay too...nothing will stop me from making sure Rick is taken care of. And once again all things are possible with God.

We love and miss everyone.

Love,
Crystal

  1. Crystal,
You are certainly right. It is a possibility
that you were wrongly persuaded to go there, however, let's pray and give it another day or two. No one, not anybody, would expect you to be put in harms way, there is absolutely no point in that. Now haveing said that, let's pray and believe that was God's plan because if it wasn't He will certainly allow you to change it, He still has you alls best interest in the plans, right? right!!
Father we come before you with praise and thanksgiving. Lord we pray right now that Rick and Crystal have divine protection from any thing Satan may have set up to discourage Crystal and give her second thoughts about what she has done or is going to do! Father you know the situation from beginning to end and we thank you in advance for a glorious outcome. Father, again we thank you for accellerated healing for Rick, for a miracle of epic proportions and Father we ask you for guidance for Crystal and supernatural protection for them both thoughout the rest of this ordeal. Father we thank you for being with those who have charge over this situation and we thank you for giudeing them. Father we thank you for all you have done and all you are going to do, in the mighty name of Jesus the Christ, the Saviour of the world, we pray, Amen and Amen
God Bless and keep you all, later, Rick
Crystal, this is going to be ok! just another speed bump, you have been phenominal throughout this whole "wreck" and you are going to make it! God Bless you and give you peace that passes all understanding!!!

  2. Crystal, Been thinking about all of this and you know your ole mom, look at the overall picture and ask one question, is Rick's overall needs being met? Are even is basic needs being met? You prepare your child from the time they are old enough to remember that they will attend school, you just don't walk up to the door one day and say it's time now go on in, Yall should have had the opportunity to talk and prepare Rick for the separation and what is expected of him gradualy, he will step up to the plate and meet the challenge. You are Rick's advocate and his voice. You do what you feel is right, you are THERE, you have learned alot in the last months and you know what the marks are of a professional person. The answer is not I will ck on it later and never show up, I'll do it in a minute and it never gets done, We will do it tomorrow, blah blah blah there are still people out there that are proud of what they do and their patients are proof of it. Love MOM

  3. I agree with Rick... you are doing an awesome job and you know what is best for Rick more than anyone. So if you aren't satisfied with what Rick is getting, do whatever you need to do. We can help in any way!!! We're behind you 100%. We are praying that God will show you the way. He has so far and will continue to. We love you both!!

  4. Hello, I haven't been over here for awhile, but maybe it's no mistake that I saw your update on my blog roll and came over. I live in Lincoln, NE and live 2 blocks from one of the best rehab hospitals. I was recently introduced this summer to an RN who moved her husband from Kansas to Lincoln because of what she heard & read about the hospital. May be worth your time to check into. Madonna Hospital http://www.madonna.org
Let me know if you need any help. I have been in the health field for 18 yrs and have some great connections. And if you want to talk to my friend who insists her husband stays at Madonna let me know. Here is my email chealey5@yahoo.com

God bless you! Remember that God has not forsaken your husband on this journey! The psalmist tells us that God hears even our sighs.
    Blessings,
    Lelia

  5. Crystal,
Just remember THIS IS NOT YA'LL'S FIRST RODEO!!! You have been with Rick from the get go and this is far beyond your reach and only in God's hand's!!! I pray for your comfort and my arms are around you. You will make the right decision and we will all be with you. Just think about all of the people who are with you all, Pray for the answer's to your questions and remember the Lord said "I WILL NEVER FORSAKE YOU AND I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU" It will be okay sweetheart, just believe. There is a reason for everything and one day if we live our life's right, we will have all of the answers!

  7. hi Crystal... i will definately pray for you, but remember, as a patient it is ALWAYS his choice when and where he gets treatment. And, as his MPOA you make that decision when he can't. God will lead you in the right decision, and you have an amazing support system. You don't want him to take any steps backwards, so if you feel he doesn't need to be there, move him! love you, Rick & I'll be praying like crazy!

  8. Crystal,

OK, I am so sorry it’s been a while. It’s crazy here in OK. Girl, don’t start doubting a thing! You just continue to be strong and consult our God every moment for wisdom. Don’t allow that darn devil open the door to fear. Stay strong and defeat him by putting all your faith and trust in God. Look at how far your faith in him has brought you and Rick…..Don’t loose the faith that he has a special plan, because he does. You know that he is quite capable of bringing you through this challenge! Just keep the faith and don’t forget his promise that he will not forsake you or Rick! You have been and are an irreplaceable wife and encourager! You are OK girl!!

Maybe you will enjoy this little devotional I read a few days ago!

Beloved, I am releasing a wave of revelation and wisdom that is necessary for you to move forward into the next stream of events in the flow of My Spirit, says the Lord. Be sensitive and pay attention to your observations, for they will point you in the right direction. No detail is small enough to overlook. Situations will take on greater than normal meaning for you as you look for signposts along the way. Watch and be aware. I am directing your steps.

Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

    Love ya!
    Sandy
