DAY 29

HE POINTED HIS FINGER!!!!

No, I wasn't hallucinating, and I had plenty of witnesses. We needed Rick to respond to a voice command, and today he did it! We had decided to be consistent and always ask for the same thing which is "point your finger". Everything I've read about brain injuries is to ask them to do something and then give them at least 30 seconds to process and respond. We'd asked several times today and would get a wiggle, but late this afternoon he finally pointed his finger. He did it 4 times in a row and when he was done he was sweating like he'd worked out. The nurses thought we were having a party (and we were) because they could hear everybody hollaring down the hall.

I'll let y'all know tomorrow what the doctors think about this development...in the meantime I'm going to be praising the Lord! So stop bawling and pick yourself up off the floor and praise him, too!

Woo Hoo!!!!

Love,
Crystal

What incredible progress he has made in just one week-just imagine what this next week will bring for Rick!! Isn't it funny you wore your contacts today-thank God your tears were joyful ones!! I am also so thankful you, Riley, and Cade were able to spend time together. You know yall are in our thoughts and prayers. I will see you Tuesday for my "nurse time" with Rick. 6. Glory to God for this milestone, and some credit also to Mama Julie for her presence this afternoon. Not only did Rick get "bathed, shaved, and shined", but she worked consistently with him for 3 hours on "pointing his finger". Although he waited till she left to show off his new trick, we are praising God for this accomplishment.

A NOTE FROM TESS and ADDISON

  11. My sister Cyndi, my grand kids, Robin and Chanston, Riley, Kade and myself were some of the people in the room when Rick pointed his finger 4 times in a row. We were so excited and yelling when he did it the first time,I am surprised he wasn't scared but he did it 3 mores times when Crystal asked him to point. The room was filled with joy from the Lord. Thanks you Lord for your work and keep working.
We love Rick very much and pray everyday for his recovery.

  12. Crystal,

Ok, this is what I was telling you about when you called. This morning I was reading Acts 3 & 4. My study was titled "More than a Ghost". It talks about how the disciples went through a phase of "we think we saw a ghost", terror and disbelief when they saw Jesus for the first time after his death. It took Jesus 40 days of undeniable appearances and miracles to convince the deciples that he had overthrown death.

I was thinking oh my gosh this is like Rick's situation. Through this miracle, God is empowering so many simple and common men and women(or should I say hicks). He is reminding us that he's not a ghost, he's our Messiah and he has the power to do miracles. Just like Peter said in Acts 4:20, "We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard". We are all doing just that...

OK, but it gets better. God is so awesome! You told us about everyone hooping and hollering after Rick pointed. I hung up the phone, finished watching our movie, and re-read those verses to refresh my memory. I now sit here in ah of what our Father Jesus Christ did again. Now you go read Acts 3 & 4...pay close attention to Acts 4:20-22 and 29-31...

Dear God, I will always speak your name boldly. Dear Lord, you are so awesome in everyway. Thank you Lord for continuously putting signs of your existence and presence right beside Rick and Crystal. We thank you for your holiness!! Amen

    We love you....The Shelton's
