DAY 23

The occupational therapist came in and evaluated Rick. She began by doing about 30 minutes of therapy and stimulation with Rick. She has decided to put him on a Total Care bed. This bed will be able to put him in a sitting position and this help stimulate his brain to "wake up". It is also an airbed and can reposition him without the nurses having to do it. After the evaluation they decided that Rick will receive therapy twice a day for about 30 minutes a day.

First thing this morning I met a lady named Liz, and she is in charge of discharging patients. I thought it was funny that I was meeting the discharge person and we just got here. But, she's making plans for our next steps already and is making sure everything will go smoothly. She shared with me that before this job she worked on the brain injury floor at Baylor Rehab! She still has connections there and is checking into the criteria for getting Rick there. God puts the right people in the right place at the right time!

Right now we have to focus on therapy and good nursing care. So please pray we get both.

My Aunt Margaret is here and she is taking me for a home cooked meal at her house while Aunt Tricia stays with Rick. My family is wonderful...I don't know what I would do without them!

Thanks for all your prayers.

  1. Yay! I"ve been checking for an update all day. I just knew it was good news. Everything sounds so good. We'll come by tomorrow for sure... love you guys!

  2. Crystal,

    We just wanted you to know that we are all checking the this update site several times a day and are continuing to pray for Rick's healing and your strength.

  3. Crystal,

    When we hung up the phone last night, I opened my bible and it opened to Psalm. Psalm 138 was highlighted in bright pink. I read it and thought “Oh my…Dear Lord, this is perfect again for Miss Crystal and what she felt today”. So here you go. I pray you have an awesome day and remember God is going before you making those crooked places straight and rough places smooth. He is putting angels in your path to guide you…. Be still, listen to only him and look for his angels!!! You had 2 visit you yesterday!! 
    Psalm 138
    Of David.
    1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;
    before the "gods" I will sing your praise.
    2 I will bow down toward your holy temple
    and will praise your name
    for your love and your faithfulness,
    for you have exalted above all things
    your name and your word.
    3 When I called, you answered me;
    you made me bold and stouthearted.
    4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, O LORD,
    when they hear the words of your mouth.
    5 May they sing of the ways of the LORD,
    for the glory of the LORD is great.
    6 Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly,
    but the proud he knows from afar.
    7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life;
    you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes,
    with your right hand you save me.
    8 The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
    your love, O LORD, endures forever—
    do not abandon the works of your hands.
    Girl, open your heart to God so that he can bring healing and restoration to your soul and spirit. Do not harbor your grief and wounding, allow him to carry the burden for you. Know that he will perfect those things that concern you. That’s not just a happy thought or a distant hope. It is his promise, but you must release those things to him for the promise to be fulfilled in your life. Let go and let him build up what has been torn down, this is what he wants….all of your faith girl!!! Jeremiah 29:11 and Psalms 138:8

    Hang in there....Talk to you later!

    Love ya,
    Bobby, Sandy and Tatum

  4. We live about 30 minutes from both the Fort Worth and Irving Baylor rehab centers. We have extra bedrooms and would love to accommodate for as long as you need. Please email if you EVER need anything.

    This would be my chance to "pay it forward". I wouldn't have made it this far through my mom's TBI without the help from family and friends.

  5. You guys continue to be in our prayers from across the miles. I am happy to read about Rick's continued progress. God is definitely listening and we'll keep praying. We are thinking of you and your family during this time and know that it can be challenging. God will answer prayers. Hang in there!
