DAY 10

Dr. Mercer came in this morning and nothing that Dr. Reeves says has changed what he believes. I guess we already knew what Dr. Reeves was going to say, it's just hard to hear it again. Dr Reeves looks at everything as a statistic, and statistics aren't in Rick's favor...but that's ok because how many of the patients in those statitics are Rick? Zero...there's noone else like him and I will keep believing that he will beat the odds. I read Jeremiah 29:11 (thanks Sammie for recommending that one)...GOD HAS A PLAN.

Physical therapy came in this morning and said that Rick was resisting him with his right arm. The lung x-rays look better and they are weaning him off the vent. ALL POSITIVES!!!

Jo Sammons from Seymour called last night with alot of encouragement. Her son was hurt in a pole vaulting accident several years ago. He was treated by the same 2 drs that are treating Rick and although it took some time, he is fine today.

Please keep praying.

Love,
Crystal

  2. I was involved in a car wreck 6 1/2 years ago and had a traumatic brain injury among other injuries. Dr. Mercer was my doctor for the time I was in the Wichita hospital. According to the statistics you speak of, I am not supposed to be here today. But I am. Prayers do miraculous things. Do not lose your faith. My prayers are with you.

  4. What a wonderful thing to hear that they are going to try to wean him from his vent! My daughter had a hypoxic brain injury at birth and even though she is trached and vented at home at age 4 now, she is a little miracle in herself. She shouldn't be here either, but she is. So I believe miracles happen, I see one everytime I look at her.

I understand vents, since we deal with one daily, and trying to wean is a very big deal and a step in the right direction. I was so happy to read that today!

I have a feeling Rick will prove the doctors wrong, you can't keep a cowboy down for long. It is going to be a hard road, people usually don't mention that part they just say "he will get a miracle" but it will be a hard road too, but Rick is a tough man from what I hear. The road will be long and rough, but you will welcome the chance to get to take it together with Rick and get him back to who he was.

I have been praying several times a day for Rick. He and I have some of the same family, and even though I have never met him, he feels like family to me too. God Bless him and his family.

  5. Crystal and Family,

Please know that you are in our prayers and I think about y'all often during the day. I don't know Rick, but from what I've heard through the years and from following your blog--there is no doubt in my mind that he will come out of this just like his old self. I have seen many miracles performed by God and truly do believe in the power of prayer.

  6. So good to hear the good news!! Getting rid of the vent is a huge step. That is such a great and positive sign. Just like you said in a previous post, it just takes time. Prayers are answered, and there are SO MANY people praying for Rick's healing. IT will happen. We love you!
